A Brief History of SIRBn 

The Specialized India Reserve Battalion (SIRBn) was established under Government Order No. 16011/7/2010-PF IV, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, on January 17, 2013. The Battalion was raised to address a critical shortage of specialized forces within West Bengal, particularly in response to evolving security challenges. These include Left Wing Extremism (LWE) counter operations, the management of sensitive international borders, and rapidly changing crime patterns that place significant demands on the existing law enforcement infrastructure. Consequently, the deployment of this specialized Unit provides vital support to the State Police, enhancing their capacity to maintain law and order with greater professionalism and efficiency. 

The Specialized India Reserve Battalion (SIRBn) remains deeply committed to community welfare and social responsibility through various outreach programs: 

❖ Health and Wellness: The Unit successfully organized blood and plasma donation camps, drawing active participation from numerous police personnel dedicated to supporting public healthcare needs.

❖ Pandemic Relief: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Battalion distributed essential food supplies to underprivileged residents in the Barjora area, strictly adhering to established health and safety protocols. 

❖ Winter Relief Campaigns: Demonstrating a continued commitment to local communities, the Unit distributed 200 blankets to economically disadvantaged families in the villages surrounding the Battalion Headquarters during the winters of 2024 and 2025. 

SIRBn personnel have consistently demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and athletic prowess, securing top honors in various law enforcement sports tournaments: Volleyball: 

❖ 2018 & 2020: Clinched 1st place in the Brigade Volleyball Championship. 

❖ 2019: Secured 1st place in the IG North Bengal Zone Volleyball Championship. 

❖ 2020: Crowned champions (1st place) in the West Bengal Police Volleyball Championship. Football: 

❖ 2023: Secured the runners-up position (2nd place) in the Brigade Football Sports Championship. Cultural Activities: 

❖ Beyond sports, the Battalion actively fosters commUnity relations through cultural outreach; in 2024 and 2025, the SIRBn organized annual drawing competitions for children under twelve from neighboring villages, drawing enthusiastic participation from 97 and 112 young artists, respectively. 

Through its strategic operational readiness, dedicated community outreach, and commendable sports achievements, the Specialized India Reserve Battalion (SIRBn) has firmly established itself as an indispensable asset to the West Bengal Police force. From its foundational years at Barjora to its permanent establishment in Rajnagar, Birbhum, the Unit has seamlessly balanced its rigorous duty on critical security fronts with a deeply rooted commitment to civic welfare. By safeguarding sensitive borders and LeftWing Extremism (LWE) and inspiring the youth through sports and cultural initiatives, the SIRBn continues to exemplify the highest standards of professional excellence, integrity, and public service. Looking ahead, the Battalion remains steadfast in its mission to serve, protect, and positively impact both the state and the communities it proudly represents.
